We are proud to announce that Monte Rosa mill in Nicaragua has successfully achieved certification under the latest Bonsucro Production Standard (v5.2). This milestone is a reflect of our commitment to sustainable sugarcane production. As Nicaragua’s second-largest sugar producer, Monte Rosa has maintained Bonsucro certification since 2018. We process around 16,500 tons of sugarcane daily, converting it into raw sugar, molasses, and white sugar. Additionally, Monte Rosa generates electricity from bagasse, supplying part of this energy to Nicaragua’s national grid.

Our path to certification has been defined by continuous improvement and innovation. Through our Sustainable Precision Agriculture program (ASP in Spanish), we have integrated agronomic, biological, technological, and environmental strategies. These initiatives help preserve soil fertility, reduce agrochemical and water usage, and lower our carbon footprint. We promote efficient water use with advanced irrigation technologies and a dry cane cleaning system, minimizing water consumption. Our commitment to sustainable water management is further demonstrated by collaborations with various entities to find effective solutions together.

Beyond environmental practices, we prioritize the wellbeing of our workforce. Our ‘Integral Well-being’ concept is a holistic plan designed to protect our team from health and occupational safety risks, preventing common injuries and illnesses. The certification process has imparted valuable lessons in efficient data and record management, leadership preparation, and stakeholder engagement, including our sugarcane suppliers. With Bonsucro’s support, we have aligned our practices to the new standard requirements, ensuring sustainability remains central to Monte Rosa’s operations.
