The South Coast of Guatemala has a new hospital with the capacity to treat 173 patients. The hospital is located in Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Escuintla. Initially projected for the care of COVID-19 patients, it will also be a permanent hospital for the benefit of the community.

More than 750 items were part of the donation by the sugar mills, including stretchers, mats, lamps, washing machines and industrial dryers; as well as, equipment for measuring pressure, heart, oxygen and laboratory analysis. Also, equipment for deliveries and care of children and babies, including  resuscitators, incubators and ventilators.

The donation is part of the 7.64 million Quetzales (aprox. $1 million USD) that ASAZGUA announced in March of this year, to contribute to the government’s efforts to address the health emergency of COVID-19. It is worth mentioning that the land where the hospital was built was also donated by the sugar mills.
