We are pleased to announce that we are Finalists in the Bonsucro Inspire Awards, under the category “Best Value Chain Initiative”. These awards recognize the outstanding contributions made by Bonsucro certified companies to accelerate the sustainable production and use of sugarcane. As one of the most important sustainability certifications in our industry, we decided to apply for the awards with a high-value initiative, our Extensionism Program.
Recognizing the importance of working hand in hand with our sugarcane suppliers to ensure the sustainability of our value chain, in 2020, we created a program to support the more than 7,400 suppliers that supply us in Mexico. The Extensionism Program seeks to transfer technology to growers and encourages them to adopt best agricultural practices to increase their productivity.
In 2021, we signed an agreement with Bayer and the leaders of sugarcane associations to generate a collaboration platform that includes all the actors in the value chain, focused on the adoption of best agricultural practices for the 3,672 sugarcane producers in Pánuco over a three year period. For this purpose, we began working with the NGO Solidaridad, and under this agreement we are developing:
- Socioeconomic Study: generation of quantitative analysis to understand in depth the characteristics of this large group of producers.
- Diploma for Technicians and Producers: technical modules aimed at internal personnel and producers, where we cover different topics on management and agricultural practices.
- MAS CAÑA Program: provides on-site training in the communities, technical assistance in the field, demonstrations with demonstrative plots and the exchange of best practices between producers and technicians.
